01Will it pay off

See roughly what solar could knock off your bills.

Move the sliders to your electricity bill and unit rate, then pick the rough size of your roof. You'll get a ballpark of what a sensible system might save you each year, and you can see exactly how the figure is worked out. It's a starting point, not a quote.

The honest number depends on your roof angle, how much power you use through the day and the tariff you're on. That's exactly what a free assessment at your home works out for you, before you commit to anything.

How we work this out

A £140/month bill is £1,680 a year. Take off about £164 of standing charge (roughly 45p a day), and at 26.11p a unit the rest buys about 5,810 kWh of electricity a year. A 4-5 kW system generates roughly 4,050 kWh a year. We take the lower of those two and count the 65% a home with a battery typically uses itself. So it saves around 2,630 kWh × 26.11p ≈ £687 a year, before the ±10% range.

Illustrative only, not a formal performance estimate or a promise of savings. Assumes (July 2026): the Ofgem average electricity unit rate of 26.11p/kWh unless you change it, a standing charge of about 45p a day (£164 a year) deducted from your bill before working out usage, a yield of about 900 kWh per kW of panels a year, self-consumption of 40% without a battery and 65% with one applied to the lower of your annual usage and the system's yearly generation, and that you save your unit rate on the power you use yourself (electricity exported to the grid is not counted). The ten-year figure assumes today's prices and makes no allowance for future price changes or the gradual ageing of the panels. Your real, site-specific figures are worked out the proper way during a free assessment.

02The problem

Most people don't hate solar. They hate the way it gets sold.

If you've put off getting panels because the whole thing feels like a sales trap, you're not being difficult. You're being sensible. Here's what usually goes wrong.

01

The hard sell that never lets up

A rep on your sofa for two hours, a "today only" price that magically drops the longer you sit there. It's exhausting, and it's designed to be.

02

A system sized for their commission

Plenty of firms quote the biggest array they can fit, because a bigger job pays them more. You end up with panels you don't need and a bill to match.

03

You can't tell if it's a fair price

Three quotes, three wildly different numbers, and a load of jargon in between. With nothing to compare like for like, it's impossible to know who's being straight with you.

04

The nagging "will it actually pay off?"

It's a lot of money up front. You've heard the payback talk before and you're not sure you believe it, especially if you might move house before the sums add up.

03The backing

Proper credentials behind the work.

We're not going to wave fake reviews at you. Here's the real backing instead: the codes we work to, the cover you get, and the kit we fit.

RECC member

Signed up to the Renewable Energy Consumer Code, so you're covered by its rules and complaints process.

Insurance-Backed Guarantee

Your workmanship guarantee is insurance-backed through the IWA, so an independent insurer stands behind it for the full term.

6-year workmanship warranty

Our own cover on the installation work, on top of the manufacturers' product warranties.

The kit we fit

We pick from established manufacturers, not whatever's cheapest this week. Which panel and battery suits you depends on your roof and how you use power.

04What we do

Solar that fits your home, not a sales target.

We design and install solar, battery storage and EV charging across Leicester and the Midlands. The job is to get you the right setup, then get out of your way.

A system sized for your home, full stop

We design around your roof, how much power you actually use, and your budget. If a smaller array makes more sense for you, that's what we'll tell you. No padding the job to pad the invoice.

Solar, battery and EV charging

Panels on their own, panels with storage, or an EV charger to go with them. We fit what fits you, not a fixed package.

You see the numbers first

You get an honest quote after a free assessment at your home, before any deposit. You decide if it stacks up.

You take your time, we don't chase

We don't do the two-hour sofa pitch or the "today only" price. You take your time and come back to us when you're ready.

05The offer

A free solar assessment, before you decide anything.

Book a free assessment and we'll come to your home to look at your roof and how you use power. If an EV or a heat pump is on the cards, that changes the sums, so we factor it in. Then you get a clear quote, and the decision stays with you.

01

A proper look at your actual roof

We come to your home and assess your roof, the shading and how you use power through the day.

02

A clear, written quote

A clear price for what your home actually needs, based on what we see in person.

03

Straight answers, no jargon

Whether a battery is worth it for you, whether a smaller system makes more sense, what the catch is. We'll tell you.

06The difference

How we work is the real difference, as much as what we fit.

Three things make an Apex job different from the hard-sell quote you've had before.

Designed for you

One home at a time, not one package for everyone

Most quotes start from the system the firm wants to sell. We start from your roof, the way you use power through the day, and what you want to spend. Sometimes that means a smaller array and a battery. Sometimes it means panels alone. You get a clear quote for the work before any deposit, so you can check our working.

Panels and batteries we'd fit on our own roof

We work with established manufacturers like AIKO, Jinko Solar, JA Solar, Trina Solar and LONGi for panels, and Hanchu, GoodWe, Fox ESS and Sigenergy for storage. We pick what suits your roof and your usage, not whatever's cheapest to buy in that week.

08Where you stand

The risk is on us, not on you.

Booking a free solar assessment costs you nothing and ties you to nothing. No rep parked on your sofa wearing you down. You get a clear quote, you sit with it, and you only go ahead if it makes sense for your home.

When you do go ahead, the work carries our 6-year workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturers' product warranties. That warranty is insurance-backed through the IWA, so an independent insurer stands behind it for the full term, however far down the line. Here's more on how we're accredited.

09Questions

Questions we get asked most.

If yours isn't here, just ask.

It depends on your roof, how much power you use through the day and your tariff. For some homes it pays for itself comfortably; for others a smaller system or none at all makes more sense. A free assessment at your home works out your real numbers, so you can judge it for yourself rather than take anyone's word for it.

That's the bit we sort. We design around your actual roof, your usage and your budget, then explain why we've sized it the way we have. We won't fit a bigger array than you need just to make the job worth more to us.

Not always. A battery helps if you use a lot of power in the evening, after the sun's gone, because it stores what your panels make during the day. If most of your usage is daytime, you might not need one. We'll tell you straight whether it stacks up for you.

Solar and a battery are a selling point, not a liability. They stay with the house and can make it more appealing to buyers, and an EPC tends to reflect them. We can talk through how that affects your sums during the free assessment.

We're a RECC member, so you're covered by its consumer code, and our work carries a 6-year workmanship warranty backed by an Insurance-Backed Guarantee through the IWA, so an independent insurer stands behind it for the full term.

A 6-year workmanship warranty on the installation, plus the manufacturers' own warranties on the panels and battery. That workmanship cover is insurance-backed through the IWA, so an independent insurer stands behind it for the full term.

We arrange a visit to your home, look at your roof, the shading and how you use power now and where it's heading, an EV or a heat pump on the horizon, and talk through your options. We take photos of the roof and your fuse board as we go, so we can design the system accurately afterwards. You get an honest, written quote for what your home actually needs. You decide whether to take it further.

We're based in Loughborough and cover Leicester and the wider Midlands. Not sure if you're in range? Ask us and we'll tell you straight away.
