01Battery storage

Battery storage in Leicester, sized to how you use power

A home battery stores the electricity your solar panels make in the day so you can use it in the evening, instead of sending it to the grid for a few pence and buying it back for more. It is worth it for some Leicester homes and not others, and the honest answer comes down to when you actually use power.

02The case for storage

Storing the day for the evening

Most Leicester homes generate the most solar around midday, when the house is often empty, and use the most power in the evening once everyone's home. Without a battery that daytime surplus is exported for a few pence and bought back at the full rate later. A battery closes the gap, running the house on its own power into the evening.

A battery tends to help when

  • You're out during the day and use most power in the evening
  • You want to charge from a cheap overnight tariff
  • You have an EV, or plan to add one

And adds less when

  • You're home all day and use power as it's generated
  • You're on a single flat rate with no cheap window
  • Your overall electricity use is very low
03Doing it right

Sized to your home, not the brochure

An oversized battery is money sat idle; an undersized one runs flat before bedtime. If a smaller battery, or none at all, makes more sense for your home, we'll tell you.

The right size

We size storage from your real evening and overnight usage and how much surplus your roof actually produces, so it earns its keep.

The kit we fit

Established brands to suit your roof and how you use power: Hanchu, GoodWe, Fox ESS and Sigenergy. A battery pairs naturally with solar panels.

Charge it cheaply

On the right tariff you can also charge the battery overnight when electricity is cheapest, then run the house off it through the expensive evening peak.

Still weighing it up? We answer whether you need a battery with solar and how long a solar battery lasts in full. Adding an EV charger changes the sums again, and a battery is one part of the wider renewable setup we fit across Leicester and the Midlands.

Questions

Common questions

Is it worth getting battery storage with solar?
It depends on when you use power. If most of your electricity is used in the evening, after the panels have stopped generating, a battery lets you store the day's solar and use it at night instead of buying from the grid. If you are at home all day and use power as it is generated, a battery adds less. We work this out from your actual usage, and where it is heading, since an EV or a heat pump can tip the balance, during the free assessment rather than assuming.
How long will a 10kWh battery last?
Through a day, a 10kWh battery holds roughly enough to cover a typical evening and overnight for many homes, but it depends entirely on what you run. Over its lifetime, a battery is covered by a manufacturer warranty (commonly around ten years to a stated capacity); it keeps working after that, just with gradually reduced capacity. We will talk you through the specific warranty on whatever we recommend.
What is the best battery storage for solar power?
There is no single best one; the right battery depends on your roof, your usage and whether you want to charge it from a cheap overnight tariff. We fit established brands like Hanchu, GoodWe, Fox ESS and Sigenergy and pick what suits your home, not whatever we have most of.
How much does a battery cost to store solar energy?
It varies with the size and brand, so we do not quote a headline figure that would not apply to your home. You get a clear, written price for what your home actually needs after a free assessment.
