Two roof worlds, a mile apart
You can walk from one to the other in ten minutes, but they ask for completely different solar. The two historic cores are all period cottages; the modern estates ringing them are a different century of roof. Here is how we approach each.
The old cores
Around St Wilfrid's Church and the old lanes of both villages, the cottages have small, steep slopes, a fair bit of it in slate, and chimneys that put part of the roof in shade for part of the day. That is fine to design around. How much a shaded or awkward slope actually gives you comes down to which way it faces the sun, and where a front slope is limited the panels usually go on the rear. If your cottage is listed or inside the conservation area, check whether you need planning permission first.
The modern edges
Kibworth has grown a lot over recent decades, and the estates on the edge of each village are among the more straightforward roofs we work with anywhere. The slopes are larger and more regular, so there is real freedom in the layout. The question there is less about the roof and more about the right size of system for how you use power.
