What warranty do you get on a solar installation?

With us, two layers of cover. First, a 6-year workmanship warranty on the installation itself, which is insurance-backed through the IWA. Second, the panels, battery and inverter each carry their own manufacturer's warranty. The two cover different things, and it is worth understanding which is which.

The workmanship warranty covers our part: how the system is fitted, wired and made watertight. Ours runs for six years and, crucially, it is insurance-backed through the IWA, so the cover holds for its full term even if anything were to happen to the business. A workmanship promise that rests only on the installer staying in business is worth a lot less, which is the difference worth asking any installer about.

The manufacturer warranties cover the hardware itself, the panels, the battery and the inverter, and are typically much longer than the workmanship cover. They are provided by the makers rather than by us, and the exact terms depend on the kit fitted, which is part of why the choice of manufacturer matters.

Together they mean the install and the equipment are each covered by the party best placed to stand behind them, with an independent insurer underpinning the workmanship side.
