In plain terms: the installation work is certified against the industry standard, the way we sell and install is bound by an independent consumer code, and an independent insurer stands behind the workmanship cover.

MCS certification is the one most worth understanding. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme certifies that the installation work meets the industry standard, and it is what makes your system eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee, the scheme through which suppliers pay you for the electricity you export rather than use. It is worth being clear about what it is not. MCS certifies how the work is done, not how much you will generate or save, and anyone telling you an MCS certificate promises a return is overselling it.

RECC membership matters because it sets the standard for how renewable-energy firms are allowed to sell and install, and it gives you an independent route to turn to if something ever goes wrong, rather than being left to argue it out with the company that did the work.

On top of that, the 6-year workmanship warranty on the installation is insurance-backed through the IWA. That backing is the important part: it means the cover holds for its full term even if something were to happen to the business, because an independent insurer stands behind it rather than the promise resting on us alone.
