What size solar system do I need?
The right size is the one that matches how much electricity you actually use and how much usable roof you have, not a headline number off a comparison site. Get it right and the system earns its keep; get it wrong in either direction and you have either paid for capacity you waste or left savings on the table.
Three things set the size. First, how much power you use and when, a household that is busy during the day can make use of a larger array, while an evening-heavy home gets more from a battery than from extra panels. Second, your roof: the usable area, the orientation and any shading cap how much you can sensibly fit. Third, your budget, since the aim is the best savings for what you spend, not the biggest possible system.
The most common mistake we see on quotes people bring us is oversizing, fitting more panels than a home can use so the job is worth more to the installer. The surplus then gets exported for very little rather than saving you money. Undersizing happens too, usually to hit a cheap headline price, and leaves you buying more from the grid than you needed to.
A battery changes the sums, because it lets you store daytime generation for the evening, so sizing the panels and sizing the battery are part of the same conversation rather than two separate decisions.
