What are the best solar panels?

There is no single best panel, and any list that crowns one is usually selling something. The best panel is the one matched to your roof, your budget and a manufacturer with a real track record, which is a judgement about the whole system rather than a brand name on a box.

What actually separates a good panel from an average one is a handful of things: efficiency (how much of the sunlight hitting it becomes electricity, which matters most on a smaller roof where space is tight), the strength and length of the product and performance warranties, how slowly it degrades over its life, and whether the manufacturer is established enough to honour those warranties in fifteen years. Headline wattage on its own tells you very little.

The panel is also only half the system. The inverter, and whether you use panel-level electronics such as optimisers, often makes more difference to real-world output, especially on a roof with any shading, than swapping one reputable panel for another.
